As part of its commitment to the communities of Nirranda and Nirranda South, CO2CRC joined with Origin Energy in June to bring Former AFL footballer Wayne Schwass to share his challenges with depression.

Schwass, who was recruited from South Warrnambool, battled the illness during his 15-year, 282-game league career with North Melbourne and Sydney.

“We were glad to be able respond to a request by local community and football club member Alan Ripon to help bring AFL great Wayne Schwass to speak candidly about his depression at a free community event,” CO2CRC Community Liaison Officer Shelly Murrell said.

“Wayne was a terrific presenter and everyone who attended would have come away knowing more about depression and mental illness. We were pleased to assist in bringing Schwass to Nirranda. I hope Wayne’s visit helps some of those attending deal with the terrible reality of mental health issues in the local community,” said Shelly.
