About Us

About

CO2CRC provides education and training in fields related to the capture and storage of carbon dioxide for students, staff, and industry, together with introductory workshops on CCS for key groups such as government bodies, financiers and legal firms.

PhD Opportunities

CO2CRC has been funded for a further five years to 2015. As we move to implement our new collaborative research programs with participating research organisations, industry and government, we are looking for high-quality chemical engineering, chemistry, geology, geophysics, petroleum/reservoir engineering and resource economics graduates to undertake research on CO2CRC projects at one of our partner universities commencing in 2010.

CO2CRC organises and runs CCS schools for post-graduate students and early career researchers. In 2009, CO2CRC was the host for the IEA GHG International Interdisciplinary CCS Summer School. CO2CRC also runs capacity building workshops, bringing together government, industry and researchers.

Courses and workshops conducted by CO2CRC have included introduction to CCS, commercialisation, evaluating seals and reservoirs, risk assessment, reservoir modelling, carbon dioxide capture technologies, process design, emissions trading, storage site selection and storage capacity estimation.

Working together with partner universities, CO2CRC is contributing to the development of carbon capture and storage related topics and courses for new and existing undergraduate and Masters’ programs.

CO2CRC has contributed to the creation of a new final-year chemical engineering course at the University of Queensland, in which subjects offered include combustion, carbon dioxide capture, transportation and storage from a coal power plant, and carbon dioxide storage and methane recovery from coal-bed methane.

CO2CRC has provided both monetary and supervisory support to 25 undergraduate students and 39 postgraduate students over the past six years.

CO2CRC also supports undergraduate students with work experience opportunities.
