CO2CRC provides education and training in fields related to the capture and storage of carbon dioxide for students, staff, and industry.

The Centre’s Education and Training Committee, whose members include CO2CRC staff and university and industry representatives, consults target groups to ensure education and training needs are fulfilled.

Courses and workshops conducted by CO2CRC have included Commercialisation; Evaluating Seals and Reservoirs; Risk Assessment; Reservoir Modelling; and Carbon dioxide Capture Technologies, Process Design, Emissions Trading, and Site Selection & Storage Capacity.

The Education and Training Committee is investigating ways of introducing carbon dioxide related topics or courses into existing undergraduate and Masters programs as well as the possible development of a Masters degree program.

CO2CRC has contributed to the creation of a new final-year chemical engineering course at the University of Queensland, in which final year subjects offered include combustion, carbon dioxide capture, transportation and storage from a coal power plant, and carbon dioxide storage and methane recovery from coal-bed methane.

The Centre has provided both monetary and supervisory support to 25 undergraduate students and 32 postgraduate students over the past four years.

As an incentive to students to choose a research career with the CRC, a new program, Earn and Learn, allows students to be employed with CO2CRC half-time, whilst completing their PhD half-time.

CO2CRC also supports undergraduate students with work experience opportunities.
