CCS world projects: ECBM Geleen

CO2 produced at ammonia plants will be injected into sandstone under and between coal seams. This will release methane in an ECBM operation. Partners in the project are Suez/GTI, Vito and DSM. The amount of CO2 available for storage is around 0.5 Mt pa. The pilot phase is expected to commence in 2009 and by the end of 2010 the project is planned to be fully operational.
