CCS world projects: Schweinrich

This project is one of four field cases for the overall CO2STORE Project. This German case study is looking to discover, characterise and evaluate a deep saline aquifer in the Northeast German basin, which is able to store 400Mt of CO2. This is the amount of CO2 that is emitted from a relatively large power plant, such as Schwarze Pumpe, over 40 years, based on emissions of approximately 10Mt per year. One of the main objectives of this project is to almost completely eliminate CO2 emissions, at cost effective levels, with safe and feasible technologies.
