CCS world projects: Qinshui

This project is one of the projects selected by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) to be funded under the Canadian Climate Change Development Fund (CCCDF). Located in the south Qinshui Basin of Shanxi Province in North China, this pilot project is testing the viability of storing CO2 in deep, unmineable coal-beds, and of enhancing coalbed methane recovery by CO2 injection.  192 tonnes of CO2 was injected into the Qinshui Basin from the 6th-18th April 2004. Initial production of methane has shown a significant enhancement in methane production, while simultaneously storing the CO2.
