CCS world projects: San Juan

The San Juan Basin is located near Navajo City, New Mexico and is one of the top ranked basins in the world for CO2 coalbed sequestration. The Southwest Partnership (SWP) is conducting the San Juan Basin enhanced coal-bed methane (ECBM) field validation test in cooperation with Burlington Resources. In August 2007 injection of about 68,000 tonnes of CO2 began. As of December 2009 approximately 18,400 tons has been injected into the coals in the Upper Cretaceous Fruitland Formation, and methane has been subsequently produced.
