Australian Greenhouse Office, part Department of the Environment and Water Resources, delivers most of the programmes under the Australian Government’s climate change strategy. Australian Petroleum Production Exploration Association Ltd (APPEA), the peak national body representing Australia's oil and gas exploration and production industry COAL 21, an initiative of the Australian Coal Industry, aims to realise the potential of advanced technologies to reduce or eliminate greenhouse gas emissions associated with the use of coal. CRC for Coal in Sustainable Development, an unincorporated joint venture of participating organisations from the black-coal producing and using industries and research organisations in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia, aims to optimise the contribution of coal to a sustainable future. Cooperative Research Centres Programme, an Australian Government funded initiative, emphasises the importance of collaboration between business and researchers to maximise the benefits of research through an enhanced process of utilisation, commercialisation and technology transfer. It also has a strong education component. Department of Energy, a department of the United States Government, its overarching mission includes to advance the national, economic, and energy security of the United States and to promote scientific and technological innovation in support of that mission. Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources, a department of the Australian Government, its vision is increased prosperity for all Australians through internationally competitive and sustainable business. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), assesses scientific evidence of climate change globally. |

Canadian Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage Network Co-ordination of research, development and deployment efforts of national capture and storage initiatives, and information on technology. Carbon Capture and Storage Association London based, represents the interests of its members in the business of capture and geological storage of carbon dioxide. Carbon Capture Project, an international effort funded by eight of the world’s leading energy companies, seeks to develop new technologies to reduce the cost of capturing carbon dioxide from combustion and to store it geologically. Carbon Sequestration FAQ Information Portal, frequently asked questions and answers intended by the United States National Energy Technology Laboratory to provide useful information and dispel misconceptions. Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum, a voluntary climate initiative of developed and developing nations that account for about 75 per cent of all man-made carbon dioxide emissions. CCS Technologies at MIT conducts research into technologies to capture, utilise, and store carbon dioxide from large stationary sources. Coal-Seq Consortium, advancing the science of carbon dioxide sequestration in unmineable coal-seams. CS Energy’s oxyfiring, capture and injection project, involving retrofitting oxyfiring technologies to a 30-megawatt unit at the existing Callide A power station at Biloela in central Queensland, Australia. Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources (CCS), an Australian Government department, provides information on development of a regulatory framework for carbon dioxide capture and storage, the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum, and international activities and projects. Fairview Zero Carbon Power project, involving construction of a 100-megawatt power station fuelled by coal-seam methane. One-third of the carbon dioxide emissions from the power station – more than 100,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year – will be captured and stored geologically in deep unmineable coal seams. Frio Brine Pilot experimental site in the South Liberty oilfield near Houston, Texas, United States, has experienced two injections of carbon dioxide, one in late 2004 when researchers injected 1,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide into a brine formation about 1.6 kilometres below the surface; and another in late 2006 when about 700 tonnes was injected. FutureGen, based in the United States of America, is a public-private partnership to build a first-of-its-kind coal-fueled, near-zero-emissions power plant, integrating coal gasification, electricity generation, emissions control, carbon dioxide capture and geological storage, and hydrogen production technologies. Gorgon natural gas, the world’s largest carbon dioxide capture and storage project from natural gas, being developed in Western Australia. Chevron (TAPL) Pt Ltd is working with joint venture partners Shell Development Australia Pty Ltd and Mobil Australia Resources Company Pty Ltd on the geosequestration project as part of their development of the Gorgon natural gas reserves off the north-west coast of Western Australia. Hydrogen Energy, a company jointly owned by BP and Rio Tinto, was established to develop decarbonised energy projects around the world, initially focussing on hydrogen-fuelled power generation, using fossil fuels and carbon dioxide capture and geological storage to produce new large-scale supplies of clean electricity. International Energy Agency (Carbon dioxide capture and storage research) International Energy Agency database of carbon dioxide geological sequestration research, development and demonstration projects Latrobe Valley Research Hub, Australia’s and possibly the world’s first research hub to fast-track the maturity of technologies that capture greenhouse emissions from brown-coal power stations. Monash Energy brown-coal-to-liquids proposed project in the Latrobe Valley in Victoria, Australia, includes capture and geological storage of carbon dioxide. Monash is examining the proposal in conjunction with technical advisers from Anglo American and Shell. Significant projects recognised by the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum. Sleipner project, operated by Statoil in the North Sea off the coast of Norway, is the first commercial-scale project dedicated to the geological storage of carbon dioxide in a saline formation. United States Department of Energy database of projects in which it is involved United States Department of Energy (geological sequestration), outlines the carbon dioxide capture and geological sequestration research and development program of the department. World Coal Institute (carbon capture and storage) Outlines current technologies and projects. ZeroGen in Queensland, Australia, proposes to be the first in the world to combine both coal-based gasification and carbon dioxide capture and storage in deep saline aquifers at a commercial scale. |
