Impact of impurities on polyamide membrane performance

Capture Research
_

Purpose

This work aims to improve the understanding the impact of contaminants on performance of 6FDA-durene and other
potential membranes.

_

Summary

Previous studies show that the presence of contaminants affects membrane performance significantly and can result in a decay of up to 50% in selectivity. This work aims to improve the understanding of the impact of contaminants on polyimide membrane performance. It will then be extended to other potential membranes for CO2 separation.

The performance of the membrane will be tested under different contaminant levels and maximum impurity concentrations established for continued membrane performance. Results will allow for the improved design of pre-treatment systems to remove these contaminants prior to membrane separation. The project scope also covers the possibility of regeneration of the membrane after it is exposed to contaminants in order to restore the original performance.
