To complete an integrated assessment of the CO2 geological storage potential of the Gunnedah Basin and the New South Wales part of the Bowen Basin.
The project consists of a range of activities including reviewing and analysing publicly available data to develop a high level overview of the Gunnedah Basin’s CO2 storage potential. The overall project is divided into two research phases.
Phase I has been conducted largely as an analytical and interpretative review, integrated with some new information gained through laboratory testing and a summary report of storage options in the Gunnedah basin is in the final stages of preparation. In addition, the report contains a plan for potential ongoing work.
The proposed Phase II study will review the region in more detail.
The deliverables of Phase II may include a Regional Geosequestration Atlas of the Gunnedah Basin, a GIS-based Geosequestration Database and final report on portfolio options and CO2 prospective storage capacity estimation of the Gunnedah Basin and its northern extension.
