Purpose

To establish whether storage of CO2 in uneconomically recoverable coal seams is a feasible long term
storage option.

Summary

This work aims to:

To establish the CO2 storage potential of Australian coal measure systems.
Characterise coal seams and adjacent strata with respect to adsorption, swelling, permeability at in situ conditions, reservoir engineering and modelling of flows through strata using SIMEDWin software.
Develop a methodology to assess the CO2 storage potential of coal measures. Using this methodology, evaluate the CO2 storage potential of coal measures in the northern Sydney Basin (Hunter Valley).
