Purpose
This activity builds enhanced reservoir engineering capability to model the injection, migration and final containment of carbon dioxide stored in geological formations.
Summary
This activity conducts research to extend our current capability to model carbon dioxide injection, migration and the primary trapping mechanisms: residual trapping, mineral trapping, and dissolution. This involves simulation involving coupled geochemistry, coupled geomechanics and coupled hydrodynamics. The performance of simulation codes is being evaluated through code comparison studies.
